Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Top Aces guidance, training and execution provides safe and compliant air weapons operations and local explosives storage and handling
    • Ensure that our emergency response plan related to air weapons and explosives is updated and communicated every year;
    • Ensure compliance with the WHMIS program;
    • Ensure compliance with Natural Resources Canada guidance on transport and storage of explosives;
    • Ensure compliance with Department of Defense (DND) air weapons and explosives policies and regulations ;
    • Maintain and update Top Aces air weapons and explosives documentation;
    • Guide meetings of Top Aces Air Weapons Safety Committee;
  • Advisor and mentor role in air weapons and explosives handling and storage - act as an agent of influence and positive change with employees and managers;
  • Coordinate and Lead training activities and presentations on the use of air weapons and explosives used by Top Aces
    • Ensure air weapons training records and certifications are up to date;
  • Act as Top Aces local Unit Explosive Safety Officer, and represent Top Aces in the Wing Air Weapons organization
    • Participate and adhere to the Wing Air Weapons Handling Program and participate in Wing Air Weapons Committee meetings;
  • Perform site inspections to assess workplace hazards and risks and ensure compliance with DND, NRC and Top Aces explosive regulations and guidance;
  • Act as Top Aces agent to receive inspectors from Natural Resources Canada and/or DND as needed (audit, accident, recerts, follow-up, etc.);
  • Support Top Aces Safety and Quality Management programs; Work in collaboration with the management team in the management of incident/accident files in the workplace;
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor;
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.

 

 

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Certification in air weapons handling and storage, or the equivalent;
  • 5+ years of air weapons experience: have extensive experience in all aspects of air weapons and explosives handling operations and storage applicable to the wing and fleet;
  • Experience as a weapons instructor within the DND, an asset;
  • Experience working with provincial and / or federal civil explosives legislation;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers;
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook);
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service;
  • Ability to perform all work in support of our Corporate Values of Excellence, Service, Integrity and Together;

  • Position requires Level II Clearance with the Canadian Government and the ability to gain access to the Canadian Controlled Goods Program.
